Oak Galls & Marigold Vintage Pajama Set, size- medium

I dyed this pajama set using oak galls, marigold, alkanet root, peony, rose, lavender, buckthorn berries, annatto seeds and iron salts.

Oak galls or oak apples are found on many species of oak trees. The apple or gall is an irregular plant growth found on leaves, bark and stems. These irregularities are caused by plant growth-regulating chemicals produced by an insect, like wasps. The gall is like a protective home or nursery for wasp larvae. The soft tissue that develops inside these oak galls serves as a food source for the larvae to eat as they grow. The galls usually do not harm the oak but the formation is a defensive measure by the tree and therefore contains strong natural astringent compounds such as tannic acid. Oak galls have been used for tanning, dyeing and some people use them for medicinal purposes.

Each naturally dyed piece is made with love, care and the intention of connecting oneself to the present moment. I spend many hours brewing and bundling these pieces, and I hope that the calmness and joy I experience in making them transfers to you.

Care: Hand wash gently in cold water with a PH neutral soap, hang dry.
